Social Networking

Personally, I don't really like MySpace. I find many profiles are quite messy and difficult to read. However, judging by the number of 'friends' many of the library profiles have, I am in the minority!

Most of the libraries seem to use their spaces for promoting Youth Services and MySpace is a great place for this, based on it's user demographic. The more successful promotions seem to involve youth events and activities involving popular authors and local bands. The success of the sites is difficult to ascertain, as many friends appear to be 'spam' or people simply using the site as free advertising.

I'm more of a facebook person (must be an age thing...). I like that it allows you to contact friends and share photos etc with them. And it reduces the need to remember everyone's emails - they are always changing! It's also a much neater application - my librarian's qualities are really starting to show now :-)

I am a Facebook fan myself. I communicate with colleagures around the world. It also has interest groups attached that I subscribe to to help me keep up to date with trends in that area.
